The X International Conference “Topical problems of the uranium industry” is being held at venue of the Kazakh-British Technical University in Almaty on November 24-26, 2022. The Conference is dedicated to the 25th anniversary of NAC Kazatomprom JSC and the 20th anniversary of Institute of High Technologies LLP (subsidiary of Kazatomprom).
The event is attended by more than 450 representatives (about 100 of them online) of leading enterprises and companies in the nuclear industry, as well as scientists and specialists from around the world.
The purpose of the conference is to provide the international scientific community, developers and manufacturers of advanced materials, machinery and equipment with a platform for discussing current scientific and technological problems and their solutions for the development of nuclear industry enterprises in Kazakhstan and other countries.
Throughout all these years, Kazatomprom, adhering to Kazakhstan's policy of developing exclusively peaceful atom, has been supporting cooperation in the field of safe development of nuclear energy, education, science and production with partners from around the world. Undoubtedly, the wide scope of problems and the high level of representativeness at the conference gives it the status of a significant event for the global uranium industry as a strategically important industry for Kazakhstan and other countries, - said Yerzhan Mukanov, Chair of the Management Board of Kazatomprom. - To ensure competitive advantages and achieve scientific and technological leadership in the industry, National Atomic Company continues to actively conduct scientific research, introducing advanced technologies and innovative solutions into the production process.”
The conference will address topical issues of the nuclear industry in seven main sections: “Geology, geotechnology and mining preparatory work”, “Technology of uranium mining and processing”, “Technologies and current problems of the pre-reactor nuclear fuel cycle – conversion, production of nuclear fuel”, “Resources and efficient technologies for the production of rare, rare earth metals and high-tech products based on them”, “Safe operation of enterprises of nuclear industry and industry-related wastes management", “Issues of sustainable development (ESG), legal, macroeconomic and educational aspects of the nuclear industry”, “Digitalization, automation and robotics in the nuclear industry.”
Scientific, technological and innovative development play a significant role in the implementation of Kazatomprom's strategic priorities and increase the efficiency of the nuclear holding.
Kazatomprom pays great attention to the organization of research and development (R&D). According to the results of 2021, the amount of investments of the nuclear holding for the implementation of R&D projects amounted to KZT 3.24 billion, the Company has received 15 protection documents for intellectual property objects.
Kazatomprom engages its employees in innovative activities through mechanisms for submitting innovation proposals. In 2021, the employees of the nuclear holding presented 2,277 innovative proposals. The total economic effect from the innovation proposals used in production amounted to KZT 1.34 billion.
On November 24, during the conference, cooperation agreements were signed between Kazatomprom and the Paul Scherrer Institute (a multi-disciplinary research institute for natural and engineering sciences in Switzerland) and with the Kazakh-British Technical University. These documents are aimed at developing joint activities in the field of research work, transfer of innovative technologies and developments, as well as training of scientific personnel for the nuclear industry.
Kazatomprom has been holding such international conferences every two years since 2000. Scientists and specialists of enterprises, scientific organizations and companies of the nuclear industry and rare metal industry from near and far abroad take part in such conferences: Russia, France, Canada, Germany, Great Britain, Japan, Australia, USA, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and other Central Asian countries.
